Urban ecosystems are shaped by a mosaic of spatial conditions that influence how they absorb disturbance and recover over time. This study explores how spatial heterogeneity, reflected in the coexistence of built up areas, informal green patches, and transitional open spaces, can create resilience pathways within cities. Rather than focusing on engineered interventions, the work highlights how overlooked spaces such as vacant lots, marginal strips, and semi wild patches contribute to ecological continuity and adaptive potential. These areas often host spontaneous vegetation, micro habitats, and flexible social uses that allow ecosystems to reorganize after stress. By examining how spatial contrasts and gradients influence ecological potential, the study proposes a conceptual lens for reading resilience through the structure of the urban fabric itself. Within this lens, repurposing is understood not as transforming these landscapes into fully designed spaces, but as working with their existing qualities to enhance socio ecological benefits. Progressive stewardship, ecological buffering, and inclusive community uses within these spaces can strengthen their role in addressing socio-ecological challenges and enhance their regenerative role within the wider urban system. This approach encourages planners and researchers to recognize resilience not only in designed green infrastructure but also in the everyday spatial irregularities that progressively sustain ecological processes.
