Description

AnaEE-ERIC is a European research infrastructure connecting experimental facilities, analytical platforms, and modelling tools to investigate ecosystem functioning and responses to environmental change. As new monitoring technologies, phenotyping tools, and digital data systems rapidly emerge from research projects, European research infrastructures face the challenge of translating these innovations into sustainable operational services that support long-term ecosystem observation and environmental research. Within the European project PHENET, AnaEE leads Task 1.2, which aims to analyse the transferability of technologies, tools, and methodologies developed across the project’s work packages and use cases into potential new services within European Research Infrastructures (RIs). The approach combines systematic evaluation of project outputs with dedicated workshops and consultations with RI representatives and project partners, including EMPHASIS, eLTER and ELIXIR, to assess service maturity, feasibility, and potential cross-infrastructure implementation. Particular attention is given to innovations supporting agroecosystem phenotyping, long-term environmental monitoring, and the integration of FAIR data principles. Preliminary results highlight several candidate services that combine phenotyping technologies, environmental observation systems, and interoperable data infrastructures to enhance agroecosystem monitoring, support biodiversity and climate resilience research. This work demonstrates how research infrastructures can translate project-based innovations into operational services across European RIs, strengthening collaboration, improving environmental monitoring, and contributing to sustainable land management.
